The Regencycore Bedroom Trend

Inspired by period dramas like Bridgerton and a collective yearning for grandeur, Regencycore can transform your plain bedrooms into luxurious and stately retreats.

You will artfully blend the opulence of Georgian-era design with contemporary comfort, creating spaces that feel both timeless and fresh.

Unlike traditional period recreations, Regencycore embraces a more playful interpretation, allowing modern elements to shine alongside historical touches. Its surging popularity reflects a desire to escape into refined elegance while maintaining practical, liveable spaces.

The essence of Regencycore

Regencycore is all about the layering of textures and dramatic contrasts. Rooms have a deep sense of theatrical romance through the interplay of light and shadow, soft and structured elements, and ornate details against clean backgrounds.

The style creates an atmosphere of cultured sophistication through careful balance - never austere yet avoiding excess. Signature characteristics include harmonious colour palettes punctuated by bold accents, natural motifs reimagined in dramatic scale, and an emphasis on symmetry that creates a sense of order and calm.

Creating the Regencycore look

Grand bed frames

Poster beds draw the eye upward, with slimline wooden and aluminium frames best for a modern approach to Regencycore.

Deeply buttoned headboards in crushed velvet are also great options, with curved or scalloped tops reaching 4-6 feet high.

For a lighter touch, choose ornate metal bed frames in brass or bronze featuring intricate scrollwork and symmetrical patterns.

Layering luxury with textiles and walls

Layer bedding with intention, combining crisp white sheets with quilted coverlets and throws in coordinating patterns.

Add pillows in varying sizes, incorporating at least one statement cushion featuring botanical or geometric prints. Wall treatments should create depth - consider panelling in pale hues or wallpaper featuring oversized florals in moody colourways.

Setting the scene with lighting and mirrors

Lighting plays a crucial role - mix traditional crystal chandeliers with modern metallic table lamps. Mirrors amplify both natural light and grandeur - position an ornate floor-length mirror opposite windows or flank the bed with matching gilded pairs.

Window treatments should be generous - layer sheer curtains beneath heavier drapes, ideally ceiling-mounted to emphasise room height.

Storage with style in furniture and vanity

For storage, choose pieces with presence - a mahogany armoire or chest of drawers with brass hardware adds authentic period charm.

Add a vanity area with a decorative mirror and upholstered stool, creating a dedicated space for morning routines. Accent furniture should feature curved lines and rich materials - think velvet-covered bedroom chairs or a small chaise at the foot of the bed.

Adding personality with accessories and nature

Accessories complete the look: vintage-style perfume bottles, leather-bound books, and botanical prints in gold frames add personality without clutter.

A plush area rug anchors the space, ideally featuring subtle pattern work in complementary tones. Use potted plants or fresh flowers to soften your bedroom's formal elements while maintaining the style's connection to classical motifs.

Creating a scholarly writing desk and library

Set up a focused workspace with a sturdy desk with built-in storage drawers and brass handles. Choose one at least 120cm wide to accommodate a laptop, paper, and writing materials.

Display your most-used books on easy-to-reach floating shelves or in a bookcase with glass doors to protect them from dust. Add a supportive, well-padded chair with proper back height - wingback styles work well.

Storage as a statement

A tall mahogany wardrobe makes a dramatic focal point while providing essential storage. Look for traditional features like decorative brass handles and carved details, with a mirrored front panel to bounce light around the room.

Choose a wardrobe around 180cm tall to work well with standard ceiling heights, ensuring it enhances rather than dominates your space.
