Gastro Garage have announced the extension of their TORCHED residency on the rooftop of the W Hollywood through May 1, 2021 with the possibility of continuing throughout the rest of the Summer. The one-of-a-kind, culinary pop-up is a blowtorched-powered evening featuring eight delicious courses, curated cocktails, and breathtaking views of Los Angeles. We couldn't wait to experience it for ourselves!
Over the last few years, The Gastro Garage has traveled all over the world doing pop-up events from L.A. to Abu Dhabi. They have been featured on BravoTV.com's digital series, Going Off the Menu and Cooking Channel’s Food Paradise as well as have received numerous accolades in notable media outlets.
Upon arrival, we took the private elevator to the rooftop, checked-in, and had a photo-op with the staff and blow torches. The rooftop has been designed to look like a drive-through auto service bay, complete with oil drums, hubcaps, vintage motorcycles, and of course, rock 'n' roll music and videos playing in the background.
During this one-of-a-kind evening, we were greeted by "Gastro Mechanics," clad in welding masks and wielding giant blow torches with flames flying high.
We were invited to the bar area for cocktails and tried a specialty cocktail made with The Chainsmoker’s JAJA Tequila. Afterward, we were entertained with a short introduction about The Gastro Garage before devouring our first delicious course of Kettle Chips with Blu foam and Gastro Buffalo Sauce. We were then escorted by Mechanics to our private table which had a spectacular view of the city below and toasted with a welcome shot of Bullet Bourbon.
Creating the ultimate interactive dining experience using blow torches and molecular gastronomy, the menu features an 8-course “Mechanics Menu,” with signature “Gastro Tanks” and “Drill Bits.” The "Gastro Mechanics" deconstruct classic dishes and reconstruct them into signature “Tanks,” made from savory brioche donuts that are filled with nitrous foam in a variety of flavours and then torch them with gourmet toppings, finishing oils, purees, and spices. Each course was playfully cooked in a table-side performance with flames flying high.
On completion of the savory courses, we were escorted to a poolside cabana by our Mechanic where we enjoyed two dessert courses as as we looked onto the magical city lights of L.A below.
“The feedback we have been receiving has been incredible and we are thrilled to continue our residency for as long as the W Hollywood will have us," says Adam Manacker, co-founder of The Gastro Garage. "It's all about an immersive experience and experimentation with different flavors, toppings, and oils to create the perfect tank and unique night out under the stars.”
