Double Dutch: The Twin-Powered Revolution in Mixers

In a world where the beverage industry is brimming with choices, Joyce and Raissa de Haas stand out as the dynamic twin sisters who have shaken up the market with their innovative brand, Double Dutch. Since its inception in 2015, Double Dutch has become synonymous with premium, flavourful mixers, offering a refreshing alternative to the status quo and winning the hearts of cocktail aficionados and industry giants alike.
The journey of Double Dutch is as vibrant as the brand itself. Born in the Netherlands and raised in Belgium, Joyce and Raissa developed a deep appreciation for the finer things in life early on. Their paths initially led them to finance, but it wasn’t long before their entrepreneurial spirit called them back to academia. In 2013, they made the pivotal move to London to pursue a Master’s degree in Tech Entrepreneurship at University College London (UCL). It was here that the seeds of Double Dutch were planted.

At a time when the selection of spirits was rapidly expanding, the twins noticed a glaring gap in the market: the lack of innovative, flavourful mixers that could complement the modern drinker’s palate. Recognising this as an opportunity, Joyce and Raissa set out to create mixers that were as carefully crafted as the spirits they accompanied. Their dedication paid off quickly; by the time they completed their degrees, they had secured funding through UCL’s Bright Ideas Award and were ready to launch their debut products.

The first two mixers, ‘Pomegranate & Basil’ and ‘Cucumber & Watermelon,’ were instant hits, celebrated for their unique flavour profiles and natural, sustainably sourced ingredients. The response was overwhelmingly positive, setting Double Dutch on a rapid trajectory to success. Today, the brand is sold in over 45 countries, with a significant presence in high-end venues across the UK, including Soho House, Zuma, and Dishoom. Their mixers, which are low-calorie, vegan-friendly, and free from artificial ingredients, have resonated with health-conscious consumers worldwide.

The twins’ vision and drive have earned them numerous accolades. In a remarkable endorsement of their business acumen, Sir Richard Branson awarded them the coveted Foodpreneur Award, recognising their potential to revolutionise the industry. The recognition didn’t stop there. Double Dutch recently received the 2024 King’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade, a prestigious honour that underscores the brand’s global impact. Additionally, the sisters’ achievements earned them a spot on Forbes’ ’30 under 30’ Europe list, cementing their status as leading entrepreneurs in the food and drink sector.

Yet, Joyce and Raissa’s ambitions extend beyond business success. They are deeply committed to social responsibility, which is evident in Double Dutch’s recent attainment of B Corporation status. This certification highlights their dedication to ethical business practices and sustainability—a distinction that sets them apart in the mixer market. The brand is also a champion of inclusivity, demonstrated through initiatives like the Female Bartending Scholarship program, which supports women in a traditionally male-dominated industry. Moreover, their partnership with The Prince’s Trust reflects their commitment to giving back and supporting the next generation of entrepreneurs.

As Double Dutch continues to grow, Joyce and Raissa de Haas remain at the forefront of innovation in the beverage industry. With their unwavering commitment to quality, sustainability, and social impact, the twin sisters have not only built a multi-million-pound business but have also set a new standard for what a modern brand can achieve.
