Become a Sake savant at Sumosan Twiga

Acclaimed Japanese and Italian restaurant Sumosan Twiga has partnered with Sake extraordinaire Marie Cheong-Thong to bring tasting classes to London’s epicureans.

Keen to gain a better knowledge for ourselves - especially from a true connoisseur - we strolled along to Sloane Street and enjoyed a great mix of sake, sushi and secret tips.

Sumosan Twiga might already be cutting edge in its combination of fresh Japanese dishes and authentic Italian cuisine, but it is looking to give its customers an experience like no other. From the 29th of September, the restaurant will be hosting Sake tastings, where foodies and oenologists alike can learn more about the Japanese libation, whilst enjoying an especially created pairing menu.

World Sake Day is on the 1st of October, and the series of classes will sandwich this, running on the three key dates of Wednesday 20th October, Tuesday 2nd November, and Wednesday 17th November. All classes will be hosted by Marie Cheong-Thong, the renowned Sake educator, taking participants through sixty minutes of Sake know-how, tasting bottles from Sumosan Twiga’s own cellar including the likes of Mio Sparkling, Azure Sake and Dassai 39. The bespoke accompanying menu has been designed to complement the variety of Sakes being tasted and includes iconic dishes such as wasabi prawns, truffle cream arancini and kobe sliders.

Marie is a board director of the British Sake Association, and member of the Circle of Wine Writers, the Association of Wine Educators, and the Japanese Culinary Academy. She comments, “it’s such a privilege to partner with a renowned establishment like Sumosan Twiga to continue to spread the word of Sake. Sumosan Twiga prides itself providing a dining experience, not just a meal, and I know these classes will be a wonderful opportunity to elevate this even further.”
