Sicily is an extraordinary island! Every city boasts a long history and an enviable cultural heritage. The sea is wonderful everywhere, with beaches to suit every taste and need.

No wonder it's a highly sought-after destination, especially in summer. For this reason, we recommend choosing one of the villas for rent in Sicily for an unforgettable seaside holiday. Where? Keep reading as we tell you about 5 beaches you absolutely must not miss!

1. Mondello

Mondello is just ten minutes away from Palermo. It is celebrated for its picturesque beaches and its historical and cultural significance.

Mondello was an Arab outpost, but it is now famous for its Liberty-style architecture—the Art Nouveau bathing establishment is a clear example. The area offers a lively summer atmosphere, a bustling piazza, and an old fishing harbour. Despite the crowds in July and August, Mondello provides peaceful lidos for a quieter experience, and its shallow waters are ideal for children.

It is a destination easily reachable from Palermo, a city that we absolutely recommend you see. In fact, Palermo fully represents the union of the cultures that have coexisted in Sicily over the centuries. Here’s what you absolutely must see:

●      the wonderful Palermo’s Cathedral;

●      the Byzantine-Norman Martorana church;

●      the magnificent mosaics of the Norman Palace, listed in the UNESCO World Heritage sites;

●      the Quattro Canti and Pretoria Square;

●      the colourful historical markets of Vucciria and Ballarò.

2. San Vito lo Capo

San Vito Lo Capo is a captivating coastal destination in Trapani province, renowned for its stunning natural beauty. This village has received multiple Blue Flag awards for water quality, and its exotic seaside appeal. For this reason, it is a seaside resort chosen by both families and groups of young people and couples on holiday.

If you love diving and snorkelling, the waters rich in marine life of San Vito Lo Capo will satisfy you! The city is on a human scale, with an almost tropical seafront lined with palm trees and historic buildings. To learn more about its history, visit the Maritime Museum and the Tonnara del Secco.

In the surroundings of the town centre, there are also other naturalistic sites that are worth seeing:

●      the Zingaro Natural Reserve;

●      Caletta del Bue Marino, with its transparent body of water;

●      the suggestive prehistoric Grotta Mangiapane, in the Monte Cofano Reserve;

3. Porto Palo, Menfi

Menfi is a famous small town in the province of Agrigento. Its fame stems from the richness of its history and, above all, its landscape.

The sea is among the most accessible and clean in Sicily, earning Menfi the name of "City of the Clean Sea." Inland, the vines grow luxuriantly, which is why the city is also famous for its wine production.

The town's coast extends for about ten kilometres, allowing you to choose between well-equipped and comfortable beaches and lidos more suitable for those who prefer closer contact with nature.

Porto Palo is undoubtedly the Menfi beach preferred by tourists and Sicilians. It is a safe beach with all the necessary services. For this reason, it is a good choice if you are on vacation with your family.

Porto Palo is designed with your comfort in mind. From easy walkways to the sea to the opportunity to enjoy a delicious Sicilian ice cream while strolling, convenience is the order of the day at this beach.

Menfi's proximity to historical treasures is a boon for history buffs. The archaeological park of Selinunte and the ruins of Eraclea Minoa in Capo Bianco are of inestimable value, offering a fascinating journey into the past.

4. Isola delle Correnti, Syracuse

Isola delle Correnti is a very suggestive beach in the province of Syracuse. It is located in Portopalo di Capo Passero, close to Pachino and the very pretty Marzamemi.

Ever wondered why it's called Isola delle Correnti? Picture this - near a small island, the Ionian Sea and the open Mediterranean Sea converge. The currents, powerful yet mesmerizing, are a sight to behold. And, when the tide is low, you can even walk across the sandy strip that links the beach to the island.

On the shore, the sea is a picture of tranquillity, inviting you to unwind. And if you're feeling a bit more adventurous, the surrounding area is perfect for snorkelling.

The beach of Isola delle Correnti seems almost Caribbean and is accessible to everyone, thanks to the shallow seabed and the presence of beaches and refreshment points.

It is certainly a place to spend a few hours in complete relaxation, whether you are staying in Syracuse or based in Noto.

Both cities are rich in history. They are both part of the UNESCO-protected heritage of the Noto Valley, renowned above all for its baroque architecture.

5. Capo d’Orlando

Capo d'Orlando is located in the heart of the Nebrodi Mountains, in northern Sicily. It offers a unique view of the Aeolian Islands off the coast of Messina.

Today, it is a trendy destination for seaside holidays but boasts ancient history. In fact, it is located in the ruins of a village that bears the name Agatirso, one of the sons of the hero Heracles. The Normans later changed its name and paid homage to Orlando, one of Charlemagne's paladins.

The coastline of Capo d'Orlando is vast and includes beaches and coves, all charactersed by clean seas and beautiful turquoise colours. There are three most suitable places for swimming:

●      the seafront of Capo d'Orlando, a thin and long strip of sand facing the Aeolian Islands, with many establishments and restaurants;

●      the beach of San Gregorio, which you recognize for the stacks and the seaside village from which it bears the name;

●      Testa di Monaco beach, located in a small bay, is suitable if you love rocky seabeds.

If you have read this far, you have discovered that in Sicily, you can always find situations that suit your needs. Nature has made it lucky by giving it the richness of the landscape.

The populations that have inhabited it have thought of everything else, and today, they make it a tourist destination where it is impossible to get bored.

Now all that remains is for you to choose the location that fascinates you the most and book your holiday in a villa equipped with every comfort.
